Pepper

  • Nils Mohl has received numerous awards for his novels, most recently the James Krüss Prize for his life's work.
  • A touching coming-of-age novel about the search for one's father – and oneself.

At first glance, 17-year-old Pepper has it all: a beautiful home in Hamburg's HafenCity; a cool mother who is a politician; a really good friend named August. And soon she will graduate from high school. Nevertheless, there is a big gap in her life: Pepper does not know her father, who was a fleeting affair of her mother's, and her mother refuses to reveal his name. Pepper is obsessed with the subject. She jots down zillions of unanswered questions in her notebook – because how can you know where you want to go in life if you don't know where you come from? But then the moment finally arrives: Pepper finds out her father's name. And that he lives only a few kilometres away from her. Pepper is determined to finally get to know him. Without further ado, she decides to move into his flat incognito. After all, what better way to get to know each other than under the same roof?

A story about the big issues that young people face, a quirky shared flat and the far too little-known band Kimme & Popkorn!
