Ada and AS

A Robot on the Run - Vol. 1

  • Humorous near-future setting
  • Girl gets an AI companion
  • New trilogy for middle grade readers by bestselling author Franziska Gehm

Finally, the day has arrived: Today, Ada’s Artificial Learning Friend is due to be delivered! (An ALF is a life-like robot that offers children support in school: with her ALF, Ada can get even better grades and score more social points with her classmates.) But instead of the sophisticated ALF Ada’s parents paid for, a robot storms into Ada’s home, telling her that it has escaped from the AI factory. It  turns out quite soon that this robot is not an ALF, but rather some “Artificial Stupidity”, AS. What is Ada supposed to do with this dumb thing? Ada’s grandad, however, thinks AS is hilarious. He teaches it all sorts of silly sayings from the 80s, which AS then utters in the most  unfitting situations. And even Ada finally realises that her robot may not have much intelligence, but it does have something of a heart. Together, the three of them set out to uncover the secrets of AS’s origins …
