A treasure long believed lost, a dark family secret and a village's shadowy past: the old manor house Darkmoor Hall is perched, gloomy and forbidding, on the cliffs above the English Channel. Kate is new to the village, and has no idea that the house's secret is about to catapult her into the biggest adventure of her life. Her new friend Gus has inherited from his great-grandfather not only an antique compass, but also a strange hundred-year-old mystery that nobody has ever been able to solve. Will Kate and her friends Gus and Billy manage to decode old Augustus's vengeful poems and locate the supposed treasure? They have to find out what happened in Darkmoor-on-Sea a hundred years ago. What caused the smugglers to enter the abandoned mine? Why was a ship wrecked on the rocks below the lighthouse? Who is buried in the nameless grave in the cemetery? And why did Gus's great-grandfather hold such a bitter grudge against his aristocratic family that he sent them out in search of the treasure, but never actually wanted them to find it?
