Eldurskóla, the famous school on the island of Smaragour, only accepts a few new students each year to train them as dragon riders. 12-year-old Jamie is sure that he will be among the chosen ones this time. But his great hopes turn to dust: He is sent to work as a labourer in the dragon docks instead. The work is hard and dangerous: huge dragons have to be cleaned and catered for, day and night.
